Lincoln Lager Newsletter December 2004

The last meeting was held at the house of Brian and Janet Allison.  There were about 15 members in attendance with many spouses as well.  We held a proper meeting and discussed some very important club business.  I wish more members could have been in attendance.  Finally, the selection of beer was excellent as usual.

Editor’s Notes; (Chris Vejnovich)

Hello felllow Brewers and friends of the Lincoln Lagers Homebrew club.  Again I have plenty of important information to pass on to all of you.  At January’s meeting members discussed business which included an increase in yearly dues, bus trip plans, a possible spring big brew, and new officers were elected.

A vote of 7 members to 8 in favor of raising dues passed at this last meeting.  Dues will now be 25.00 dollars per year.  Please be ready to pay dues with in the first few meetings of this new year of 2005.

Officer elections and re-elections took place and the results are as follows.  Bob Oenbring has been elected the new President of the Lincoln Lagers Homebrew Club.  Doug Finke was re-elected as the Treasure.  And Chris Vejnovich was re-elected as the Newsletter Editor.

The annual bus trip was discussed in great detail and should go over very well this year.  Dave Oenbring has arranged the bus trip this year for the club.  Please feel free to join our club on Feburary 19th, 2005.  For more information, please contact the club email address which is lincolnlagers@yahoomail.com   Dave needs all funds sent to him for the bus trip by Febuary 1st, 2005.

Shawn Suhr will be holding the Lagers Preliminary competition at his residence.  This competition is qualifier for our beers to be advanced on to the Interclub Comp between our club and the Omahops.  Shawn requests help from all members in helping him to plan and run this competion.  I am volunteering my services, but the we will need another 10 members or so to come out and help with manpower, planning and lastly, beer judging.  Please contact the club email if you are able to help with this qualifier.  It will be held April 17th, 2005.

The next Beer Quest is fast approaching.  The Public tasing will be held February 13th, 2005 at 2.00 PM.  The following paragraph also describes a May meeting which the Lagers will hold in the Empyrean Brewery.

The May meeting will be held at Lazlo’s “Downtown” location in the Brewery.  The meeting will be on May 1st, 2005 at 5.00PM.  We could possibly start the meeting as early as 4.00PM though.  Empyrean and the Lincoln Lagers would like 20-30 members and friends present.  I personally would like to see as many old and new faces as possible at this meeting.  Empyrean is going to give the club and friends who attend this meeting, an exclusive first taste of the Maibock bier that wins the Feburary Beer Quest Contest!!  If you can not make any other of the five meetings in which have been scheduled, please try and make this meeting so that we can show Empyrean that our club is serious about having meetings at their establishment.

The Lagers have a new website.  It is listed under the address www.lincolnlagers.com  The website has been constructed by Dave Meister, and is hosted by Brian Allison.  Please visit the website and give Dave and Brian both a pat on the back and huge thankyou for all of their hard work on this great asset for our club.  Better yet,  bring these two gentlemen some special homebrews for them to enjoy.

The styles selected for the Inter-Club Competition follow BJCP guidelines and are listed below:

Belgian Strong Ale BJCP 18

Bock BJCP 5

Stout BJCP 13

Scottish and Scotch Ales 9

Best Damn Beer
